IRON LYNX CLAIMS DOUBLE POINTS FINISH IN BARCELONA

Iron Lynx achieved a double points finish in today’s penultimate round of the FIA WEC season at the Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya. At a hugely popular and eagerly anticipated event, the #61 and #79 Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 cars showed strong pace all day, finishing in P6 and P8 respectively.

The #79 crew of Johannes Zelger, Matteo Cressoni and Lin Hodenius secured their second consecutive top-10 finish. Starting from the back of the grid, Zelger delivered an exceptional opening stint, quickly moving into the points on a wet but drying track. Matteo Cressoni then took over on slicks and continued the recovery with quick lap times and several overtakes. In the final stages, Lin Hodenius managed the strategy and tyre wear to bring the car home in P9, and a subsequent penalty for a rival promoted the trio to P8.

The #61 had a more difficult day. Martin Berry, who started from P5, made contact with a competitor at Turn 1 and was given a penalty. Despite this, he showed extremely strong pace and was in full contention for the top five. Rui Andrade had a consistent run but was punted into a spin by another car, which dropped him outside the top 10. In the closing stages, the team opted for an aggressive strategy dividing the last 2 hour in 3 stints instead of 2, running constantly with lower fuel load and fresher tires. Counting on that, Maxime Martin built a cushion that allowed him to rejoin in P9, then delivered a stunning recovery to reclaim P6.

Iron Lynx now looks forward to finishing the season on a high at home in Monza.

This year, we’ve had to say too often that we had strong pace but couldn’t fully realise our potential, and unfortunately, this weekend was no exception. Having two cars in the top-10 is certainly not a bad result in such a strong and competitive championship, but we know we were capable of much more, as demonstrated by the impressive comebacks of both cars. Another superb drive from Maxime brought car #61 up to sixth place, while car #79 secured its second consecutive top-10 finish, with Johannes showing impressive pace in the wet. We have one more race to prove ourselves. It would be even more special to achieve that at our home race in Monza!
