Iron Lynx finishes challenging Rolex 24 At Daytona debut

Today, Italian racing team, Iron Lynx, finished its first Rolex 24 At Daytona bringing all three Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2s home in its IMSA racing debut thanks to a great team effort.

Lamborghini Factory Drivers Romain Grosjean, Andrea Caldarelli, Mirko Bortolotti, and Jordan Pepper made use of their excellent experience and racing knowledge to deliver a great race in the #63 car deploying a brilliant racing and pitstop strategy. This helped the #63 squad to weather multiple full course yellows and restarts, ensuring they were in the leader’s lap and finishing fourth in class.

The #19 car in the yellow livery, had impressive pace throughout 714 laps of the Rolex 24, making up eleven places in class to finish twelfth. In his debut at Daytona, Claudio Schiavoni had a good race making up time in both his day and night stints, while Rolf Ineichen, Lamborghini Factory Drivers Raffaele Giammaria and Franck Perera drove faultlessly and all showed a fighting attitude, sharing the load to ensure the car came home.

In the magenta Iron Dames #83 car, Rahel Frey got off to a strong start handing over to Sarah Bovy who made her way through the field putting in a promising performance before an electronic issue saw them having to make a few stops in the box. Michelle Gatting set off to make an impressive comeback drive, but ultimately it had cost them the race. Doriane Pin, along with the other female racers showed their ‘never give up attitude’ to bring the car home in eighteenth place in class.

Team Principal for Iron Lynx, Andrea Piccini, said:

The whole team did an amazing job, not only this weekend but in the weeks leading up to it. They prepared not one but three totally new cars for a completely new racing series. This is the first race of the season, and we have a lot of important learnings. Our Balance of Performance took away any possibility of fighting for the victory, but we had a strong strategy and great drivers that made it possible to stay in the leader’s lap for the entire race. All the team performed well making almost zero mistakes all through the race.
