Q&A - Martin Berry
After joining Iron Lynx in the 2025 European Le Mans Series and delivering strong results, Martin Berry stepped up to the FIA World Endurance Championship at Spa-Francorchamps, where he quickly established himself as one of the standout Bronze drivers in the field. He secured the team’s first Hyperpole appearance with the new Mercedes-AMG LMGT3 at Le Mans and went on to fight for podium finishes in the closing stages of the season, narrowly missing victory in the Bahrain finale. He will continue in the #61 car in 2026 alongside Rui Andrade and Mercedes-AMG Performance Driver Maxime Martin.
How would you describe your 2025 journey?
I would characterize 2025 as a year of accelerated development with the team. I had a lot of great support that helped me to develop, grow and evolve as a driver. Being in this environment, and at the level at which the team operates, I feel like I really made a step in terms of foundation building. And the fact that it all started to come together towards the end of the season was evident, and that culminated with a strong run to finish the season on a good note.
With one year in the series, what is your opinion about FIA WEC?
The FIA WEC is the pinnacle, it really is. Having been lucky enough to compete in a few different types of championships, this is on a whole other level. As a driver, it’s an incredible experience. The tracks are outstanding. It’s not only Le Mans, but also places like Spa-Francorchamps, São Paulo, and Fuji. The atmosphere is amazing, and the level is really high. You really have to bring your best performance. I love competing at that kind of level and in that kind of environment. In a way, it even facilitates you in stepping up and eventually delivering.
What was the most challenging aspect?
For me, the biggest challenge was how compressed a FIA WEC race weekend is. Most of the practice happens on Friday, qualifying is on Saturday, and then you race on Sunday. There’s very little time to build up gradually. You need to be sharp and ready from the very first laps. That was one of the biggest learning experiences for me this season.
What was your greatest satisfaction this season?
The greatest satisfaction was seeing everything come together in the final round. We had been close to a big result in the previous races, but in Bahrain we finally delivered. We showed strong pace and came very close to winning, finishing a tight second. For me, that felt like a major achievement.
What stands out about the team and your fellow drivers?
The team environment was another highlight, and that includes the engineers, mechanics, and the rest of the team behind Iron Lynx. The drivers as well. Maxime is one that brings a huge amount of experience, and I learned a lot from him. He’s like, been there done that, seen it all and been very successful. It was equally impressive to race with someone so young and talented as Lin. He is still starting off his journey and building his career, and to play a role in that was very special. I’m very proud of how much he developed as a driver over the course of the season.
What are your expectations for 2026?
I go into 2026 with big ambitions, knowing that we have realistic goals of fighting for the championship. I’m feeling like it’s the year to really deliver performance and build on the foundations we established in 2025. Now it’s about understanding how to consistently maximize performance, fight for podiums at every race, and put ourselves in a position to challenge for the title.
