IRON LYNX MAKES STEADY PROGRESS IN GT OPEN DEBUT

Iron Lynx signed off its first International GT Open weekend with a promising run at Portimão. The team welcomed the father-son duo of Stephen and Brenton Grove at Autodromo Internacional do Algarve and delivered two consistent and promising runs.
Fielding the Mercedes-AMG GT3 for the first time, the team used testing and practice to gain experience with the car in GT3 configuration and with the Michelin tires used by the series.
In qualifying 1, improvements were strong, with Brenton Grove claiming a top-10 overall and P7 in the competitive Pro-Am class. The Australian delivered a flying start, battling for the top-5. A spin got the #10 car shuffled to the back, although Stephen Grove also showed a very good pace.
In qualifying 2, he was P9 in class and later started race 2, putting up a flawless drive. His son Brenton continued the work, fighting back to P8 in an extremely close mid-pack and setting lap times comparable with the series’ leading contenders.
Iron Lynx will soon be back on track for more action. The European Le Mans Series will compete next week at Circuit Paul Ricard, while the FIA World Endurance Championship will head into round 2 a few days later at Spa-Francorchamps.
Stephen and Brenton Grove will return to action in the 12 Hours of Misano at the end of May.
It was a great weekend. For us, it was all about preparing for Le Mans and we did that. We did every lap that we needed to do. We finished the weekend with the car straight and really gelled with the team. Great team. So excited to be here. The hard work that everybody’s putting in is really just aimed at Le Mans. So we got the track time we needed. We tried a lot of different things with the car and we think we’re in a good spot. Now we move on to Misano and into the big race.
Stephen Grove – Driver car #10
It was a good weekend. We had a program and we ticked it off, getting a lot of miles. We went through a lot of different scenarios, and we came out fast. The results probably don’t show how fast we were, but we’re both where we need to be. It’s a nice first step. We have quite a big program from here to get to Le Mans, but it’s been great working with the team, and super excited to come back in a couple of weeks.
Brenton Grove – Driver car #10
It has been a very positive weekend. Both drivers were very competitive in their respective categories and kept improving consistently, helping the team greatly in terms of developing the car throughout the four days. It was the first race for us with the Mercedes-AMG GT3 car, which is different and uses different tires compared to ELMS and FIA WEC, and we kept improving. We are looking forward to continuing supporting Stephen and Brenton’s Le Mans preparations and after seeing them race, we are even mode excited to have started this positive collaboration, which we hope to continue for the long term.
