LAMBORGHINI IRON LYNX SET FOR IMSA GTP DEBUT AT SEBRING

Coming from an encouraging debut in the FIA World Endurance Championship in Qatar, Lamborghini Iron Lynx is getting ready to compete in one of the world’s toughest races, the 12 Hours of Sebring.

Making its debut in the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup, which features the marquee endurance races of the popular IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, the team will line up in the leading GTP class with the #63 Lamborghini SC63 LMDh race car, facing a challenging track and environment.

With its trademark bumps, high speeds, and complexity, the 6-kilometre Sebring International Raceway is known to be heavy on man and machinery alike. In addition, Safety Car situations and weather concerns can be particularly tricky and sometimes become deciding factors in the final outcome of the races.

Lining up for the first time together, Lamborghini Squadra Corse Factory Drivers Matteo Cairoli, Andrea Caldarelli, and Romain Grosjean will all make their maiden GTP start. All three of them already competed in the Rolex 24 at Daytona on GTD machinery, and they are looking forward to making the step to the top class of prototype racing.

A 27-year-old Italian, Cairoli has had positive GT endurance experiences in the past, while 34-year-old Caldarelli will add GTP to his amazing resume including single-seaters, GT3 and Japanese Super GT. Caldarelli was also part of the PREMA Racing LMP2 WEC program fielded last year as a preparation for the LMDh endeavour. A veteran of 181 Formula 1 starts, including 10 podium finishes, Grosjean needs no other introduction as he adds a new chapter to his successful open-wheel career that continues to this day in the IndyCar Series.

Action at Sebring begins with three practice sessions on Thursday, while Qualifying will go underway on Friday. The race will be held on Saturday, starting at 9:30 AM and running on a 12-hour distance.

We are coming from a positive FIA WEC debut in Qatar, and we are looking to continue the hard work in our first IMSA effort. We are very delighted to race in the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, as it has a great history and features so many strong and experienced competitors. Sebring is a particularly tricky place for a multitude of reasons and it is a tremendous test bed for every technical and human aspect. Our goal is to put down some more miles, finish the race, and continue to learn as much as possible.
