LAMBORGHINI REVEALS SC63 LMDH CHALLENGER AS IRON LYNX READIES FOR TEST DEBUT

Today, Lamborghini has unveiled the SC63, its first ever hybrid race car set to contest the world’s most prestigious endurance racing championships with Iron Lynx operating as the marque’s official prototype outfit.

As part of the iconic brand’s 60th anniversary and the 10th anniversary of Squadra Corse – Lamborghini’s racing division – the much-anticipated SC63 was revealed to the public for the first time at the 2023 Goodwood Festival of Speed.

Italian team Iron Lynx will lead Lamborghini’s foray into prototype racing. Single-car operations will be entered in the burgeoning Hypercar class of the 2024 FIA World Endurance Championship and in the GTP category of the IMSA WeatherTech Sports Car Championship. In addition, a stellar two-car effort is expected for the 101st edition of the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The Lamborghini Iron Lynx Team boasts an enviable driver line-up comprising established endurance racing specialists and long-time factory drivers Andrea Caldarelli and Mirko Bortolotti as well as ex-Formula 1 drivers in the shape of Daniil Kvyat and Romain Grosjean. The quartet will race across WEC and IMSA with other drivers to be confirmed later in 2023.

The SC63 had already been put through its paces in a virtual environment prior to launch, with extensive Driver in the Loop (DiL) simulator development work having been completed. Testing of the SC63 proper will commence in August to ensure its potent combination of hybrid-supplemented V8 engine and accompanying Ligier-developed monocoque chassis are fully prepared for the fierce competition they will face in 2024 and beyond. Preparations for the test programme are now underway with Iron Lynx receiving support from PREMA Engineering.

Lamborghini’s in-house design department, Centro Stile, have guaranteed the SC63 will be easily identifiable on track, by way of styling cues borrowed from the Revuelto road car, including striking y-shaped front and rear lights as well as the traditional Lamborghini Verde Mantis green livery.

Iron Lynx Team Principal and CEO, Andrea Piccini, said: “Being involved in such an ambitious project is a once in a lifetime experience. We’re honoured and extremely excited to be part of it and to start a new chapter for Iron Lynx with Lamborghini. It’s been amazing to see everything finally come together for the reveal of the SC63.

“Everyone at Iron Lynx is eager for testing to get underway. This is undoubtedly one of the biggest challenges we’ve ever faced as a team, and we are now looking forward to seeing the SC63 on track!”
